About This Museum

Everyone comes to the Museo de Chocolate for the promise of sweet samples, but you leave completely surprised by the rich, artistic soul of this place. Tucked away on a vibrant Ayacucho street, it's so much more than its delicious name suggests. I was immediately drawn into the world of local artisans through stunning retablos (those intricate portable altars) and vibrant textiles that tell ancient stories. The energy here is palpable, a perfect blend of creative passion and deep cultural pride.

Collection Highlights

The star for me was the incredible collection of Ayacucho retablos, with their impossibly detailed scenes carved into small boxes. You'll also find yourself mesmerized by the bold, contemporary paintings and traditional weavings that fill the bright rooms.

Visitor Information

It's easy to find at Jr Manco Capac 371, and honestly, just follow your nose—the scent of chocolate from the on-site workshop is a pretty good guide. Don't be shy about asking questions; the staff are wonderfully passionate and love sharing stories behind the art.

Architecture & Building

Housed in a charming colonial-era building with a sunny central courtyard that feels like a peaceful, hidden oasis away from the city bustle.
