Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village
About This Museum
You might not expect to find a sprawling collection of over two dozen historic buildings in the shadow of Alberta's rugged peaks, but that's the charm of Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village. It feels less like a formal museum and more like stumbling into a fully-formed pioneer town. You can wander from a rustic log cabin to a fully-equipped blacksmith shop, each one telling a unique story of grit and settlement. The sheer scale of the place invites you to spend an afternoon simply exploring at your own pace.
Collection Highlights
Step inside the original North West Mounted Police barracks, complete with period furnishings that feel frozen in time. Don't miss the impressive display of vintage horse-drawn carriages and early farm machinery scattered throughout the grounds. For something truly unique, peek into the one-room schoolhouse and see how different education looked a century ago.
Visitor Information
It's located just off Bev McLachlin Drive, making it an easy stop right in Pincher Creek. Since much of it is outdoors, wear comfortable shoes and maybe bring a jacketβthose prairie winds can be brisk even on a sunny day.
Architecture & Building
The village is an eclectic mix of late 19th and early 20th-century structures, from simple log homesteads with dovetail notches to more formal clapboard-sided buildings, all carefully relocated to this site.
