Kobarid Museum
About This Museum
You might not expect a museum of this caliber in a small alpine town, but the Kobarid Museum is a true heavyweight, having even won a Council of Europe award. It pulls you into the brutal reality of the Soča Front, where hundreds of thousands lost their lives in a mountain war of unimaginable hardship. The exhibits are a powerful mix of soldier's personal photographs, poignant letters home, and the stark weaponry they carried. Walking through, you get a profound sense of the human cost paid in these beautiful, surrounding mountains.
Collection Highlights
Gripping black-and-white photos that capture the exhaustion on soldiers' faces, a reconstructed mountain trench to give you a sense of the claustrophobic conditions, and an extensive collection of original rifles and artillery shells recovered from the peaks.
