Hunte's Gardens
About This Museum
Tucked away in the lush, misty hills of Saint Joseph, finding Hunte's Gardens feels like stumbling upon a well-kept secret. You descend into a natural sinkhole, or gully, where the air itself is thick with the scent of earth and tropical blooms. It’s not a formal, structured garden but a magical, immersive experience where vibrant ginger lilies and towering palms compete for space with ancient mahogany trees. The sound of classical music often drifts through the foliage, adding an unexpected and utterly serene layer to the atmosphere.
Collection Highlights
The main attraction is the garden itself—a breathtaking symphony of exotic orchids, brilliant red bromeliads, and vast collections of heliconias and begonias. Keep an eye out for the charming benches and hidden nooks tucked beside a gurgling fountain, perfect for quiet contemplation amidst the hummingbirds and whistling frogs.
Visitor Information
It's located just off Highway 3A in Coffee Gully, so having your own transport is best. Wear good shoes for the paths, which can be steep and sometimes slippery after a rain. Don't be surprised if you're personally greeted by the late Anthony Hunte's family; it still has that wonderfully personal feel.
Architecture & Building
There's no grand building here; the 'architecture' is entirely natural. The garden is masterfully landscaped within a collapsed cave system, using the existing rainforest as its walls and canopy.
