The grounds are dominated by an original GDR border watchtower and a preserved section of the 'hinterland' security fence. Scattered around are hulking Soviet-era military vehicles—a T-34 tank and a BTR-60 armored personnel carrier—that really drive home the sheer military might deployed here. One of the most poignant sights is a Trabant car that was dramatically modified by its owners in a desperate, and ultimately failed, attempt to escape to the West.
