About This Museum

So, we finally visited the Greenwood Great House, and wow, it's like stepping right into the 1700s. It wasn't built as a family home but as a lavish 'party house' for the wealthy Barrett family—yes, the same family as poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning—to entertain their fancy friends. You can just imagine the stories these walls could tell! Every room is packed with original antiques, from delicate china to creepy old books, and it all feels surprisingly lived-in.

Collection Highlights

The collection of rare musical instruments is incredible; our guide even played a few notes on an original polyphone! We also loved the library with its centuries-old books and the quirky 'Jumble' collection of antique curiosities tucked away in corners.

Visitor Information

Definitely take one of their tours; the guides are fantastic storytellers who bring the history to life. And don't miss the pub downstairs for a cold drink after you're done exploring—it's such a fun, unexpected touch.

Architecture & Building

It's this grand Georgian-style mansion made of cut stone, sitting up on a hill with these massive, airy rooms and huge windows designed to catch the Caribbean breeze.
