Gornjesavski muzej Jesenice
About This Museum
If you want to understand Jesenice, you have to start with iron. That's the story this place tells, from its humble beginnings in a 16th-century ironworking settlement to the industrial giant it became. The museum itself is tucked away in what was once the magnificent villa of the town's ironworks director, a testament to the wealth that industry brought. Stepping inside feels less like entering a sterile gallery and more like walking through the living memory of the town, where the clang of the forge still seems to echo.
Collection Highlights
You can't miss the massive waterwheel and full-scale replica of an old charcoal-fired smithy – they've even got the original 'kohar' furnace. Upstairs, you'll find yourself in a beautifully recreated bourgeois apartment, complete with period furniture that shows how the factory managers lived. My favourite part is probably the collection of guild chests and painted furniture from the Savska Valley, which adds a touch of colour and community spirit to all that heavy industry.
