Galt Museum & Archives
About This Museum
You have to see this place—it's a museum now, but it started life back in 1910 as the Galt Hospital. Walking through the old hallways, you can almost feel the history. They've done a fantastic job making the local stories of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta feel immediate and personal, with lots of interactive displays that are way more fun than dusty old artifacts. The atmosphere is this unique mix of solemn history and vibrant community hub, all wrapped up in a beautiful historic building.
Collection Highlights
I was really drawn into the 'Where the Waters Meet' exhibit, which tells the deep history of the Blackfoot people and early settlers. There's also this great hands-on area where you can try on period clothing and explore a recreated pioneer kitchen.
Visitor Information
It's super easy to find at 502 1st Street South, and they have a lovely little store with unique local books and gifts. Definitely check their website for hours before you go!
Architecture & Building
The building itself is this stately red-brick structure with those classic, tall windows you'd expect from an early 20th-century hospital; it’s full of character.
