About This Museum

Tucked away on the road to La Minga, the Galería Maria Selva feels less like a formal museum and more like stepping into the living room of Guainía's collective memory. It grew from a local family's passion to preserve our stories, transforming their personal collection into a community treasure. You won't find dusty, silent halls here; the air is thick with the scent of wood and earth, and the sound of the Inírida River seems to whisper just outside. It’s a place that truly breathes.

Collection Highlights

Look for the stunning 'Yuruparí' ceremonial pieces carved from dark chontaduro palm and the vibrant featherwork from Mitú, each telling a story of ritual and connection to the jungle. One of my favorite corners is dedicated to 'La Tulpa,' a recreated traditional hearth that somehow still seems to hold the warmth of a thousand shared meals and conversations.

Visitor Information

Just head out Vía la Minga for about seven kilometers—you can't miss the warm, welcoming facade. Don't be shy; someone is always around to share a story or explain an artifact. It’s best to call ahead if you're making a special trip, as their hours can be as relaxed as the atmosphere.

Architecture & Building

The building itself is a beautiful example of local vernacular architecture, with high-pitched thatched roofs and open sides that let the jungle breeze drift through, blending seamlessly with its surroundings.
