Fundación Ecocentro
About This Museum
Perched right on the cliffs overlooking the Nuevo Gulf, the Ecocentro isn't your typical museum. It feels more like a thoughtful lookout post, a place where the wild Patagonian sea is the main exhibit. You come here not just to see, but to listen to the wind and understand our deep connection to this marine world. It’s a quiet, almost spiritual spot that changes with the light and the cries of the seabirds.
Collection Highlights
The heart of it is the skeleton of a southern right whale suspended in the main hall, a silent giant that reminds you what these waters are all about. Downstairs, you can lie back in a dark room and be surrounded by the otherworldly sounds of whales singing to each other—it's an experience that stays with you.
Visitor Information
It's out on Julio Verne street, a bit of a walk from the center but well worth it for the views alone. Try to time your visit for late afternoon; watching the sunset paint the gulf from their tower is something truly special.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is a beautiful piece of modern Patagonian architecture, all clean lines and weathered wood designed to blend into the coastal landscape, with a tall lighthouse-like tower for panoramic views.
