Finca Vigía
About This Museum
So, I finally made it to Hemingway's Cuban home, Finca Vigía, and it felt like stepping right into the 1940s. The house is preserved exactly as he left it, with his typewriter sitting patiently on a bookshelf in the living room and hunting trophies gazing down from the walls. You can't go inside, but you peer through every open window and door, which somehow makes it feel more intimate and real. My favorite part was seeing his fishing boat, the Pilar, dry-docked and gleaming in the garden.
Collection Highlights
His Royal typewriter waits on a bookshelf in the living room, surrounded by over 9,000 books. Upstairs, you can just make out the bathroom where he famously tracked his weight on the wall. And outside sits his beloved boat, the Pilar, which he used for fishing and during his 'spy' missions in WWII.
Visitor Information
You take a guided tour around the perimeter of the house—you can't actually walk through the rooms to protect everything. It's a bit of a drive from central Havana, up on a hill that catches a lovely breeze. Definitely book ahead if you can; it's a popular spot!
Architecture & Building
It's a beautiful, airy Spanish colonial house with wide verandas and large windows everywhere, designed to catch the Caribbean breezes.
