Fez Medina Pottery
About This Museum
Tucked down a narrow, sun-drenched alley in the heart of the Fez medina, the Fez Medina Pottery isn't so much a museum as it is a living, breathing piece of the city itself. The air hums with the gentle spin of potter's wheels and you can feel the centuries of craftsmanship in your bones. I was completely mesmerized watching artisans paint intricate patterns with a steady hand, their cobalt blue and emerald green glazes coming to life before my eyes. It’s an immersive sensory experience where every tagine and tile tells a story.
Collection Highlights
The real highlight is watching the master craftsmen at work, from throwing clay on ancient wheels to hand-painting those iconic geometric designs. Don't miss the stunning mosaic courtyard—a breathtaking canvas of meticulously laid zellij tiles.
Visitor Information
You'll find it at 13 Rue Talaa Sghira; just follow the sound of tapping hammers from the main thoroughfare. It's free to enter and wander through the workshops, but be prepared to fall in love with a piece (or three) in their expansive showroom.
Architecture & Building
The workshop is housed in a traditional Moroccan dar, or house, centered around a beautiful open-air courtyard that lets in brilliant light, with simple, rustic walls that put all the focus on the vibrant art being created.
