CosmoCaixa Museum of Science
About This Museum
Honestly, the first thing that struck me about CosmoCaixa wasn't an exhibit, but the building itself—it's this massive, beautiful modernist structure that feels both grand and full of secrets. Inside, it completely flips the script on stuffy museums; you can walk through a real, steamy Amazonian rainforest enclosure complete with live animals and tropical downpours. The place is a giant playground for the curious, where you're encouraged to touch, spin, and experiment with everything from electromagnetic generators to a giant geological wall. It’s the kind of spot where you lose track of time because every corner has something new and mind-bending to discover.
Collection Highlights
The Flooded Forest is unreal—a living slice of the Amazon with piranhas and giant river fish swimming right past you. Don't miss the Geological Wall either; it's a towering cross-section of actual rock formations telling Earth's billion-year story. And for a classic hit, the pendulum that demonstrates the rotation of our planet never gets old.
Visitor Information
It's in a quieter, leafy part of Barcelona (Sarrià-Sant Gervasi), so it's a nice break from the city center crowds. A huge plus is that entry is free for CaixaBank customers, otherwise it's still very reasonably priced. Definitely book your planetarium tickets online in advance as those shows fill up fast!
