COPE Visitor Centre

About This Museum

I had no idea, but Laos is the most heavily bombed country per capita in history, a fact that hits you the moment you step into the COPE Visitor Centre. The space feels more like a calm, educational hub than a traditional museum, focusing on the devastating legacy of unexploded ordnance (UXO). You'll find heartbreakingly simple displays, like cases filled with different types of bombs and prosthetic limbs made from recycled materials. It’s not an easy visit, but the stories of survivors and the work being done to help them make it profoundly important.

Collection Highlights

The replica of a 'bombie' or cluster bomb you can actually walk inside, a wall of personalized prosthetic legs, and survivor testimonies played in short documentary films.

Visitor Information

Entry is by donation, and it's located on Boulevard Khou Vieng—easy to reach from central Vientiane. Definitely set aside an hour to really absorb the films and exhibits.

Architecture & Building

A modern, single-story building with a clean and airy design, using lots of light-colored wood and glass that feels more like a community center than an institution.
