Coin Berbere Carpets & Antiques
About This Museum
You'd never guess that one of the most captivating collections of Berber artifacts isn't in a slick, modern museum, but tucked away in a centuries-old fondouk on the bustling Talaa Kebira. Stepping inside Coin Berbère feels less like entering a store and more like discovering a hidden treasure chest. The air is thick with the scent of old wool and cedarwood, a testament to the genuine age and provenance of every piece. It’s an immersive journey into Moroccan heritage, where each rug and artifact has a story waiting to be heard.
Collection Highlights
The heart of the collection is its vibrant, hand-woven Berber carpets from various Atlas Mountain tribes, each with unique geometric symbols. You'll also find stunning antique doors carved from cedar, intricate silver jewelry, and weathered pottery that feels straight out of a Saharan caravan.
Visitor Information
Don't be shy about asking the knowledgeable owners for the stories behind specific pieces; they're passionate and speak excellent English and French. Be prepared to spend some time here—it's not a place you rush.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a beautifully preserved traditional fondouk, the building features characteristic Fassi architecture with high ceilings supported by heavy beams, thick clay-rendered walls, and a central courtyard that lets in soft, natural light.
