About This Museum

You won't find another place like this, where you can literally trace the history of Colombia's money back to its very source. It's mind-blowing to stand in the same spot where coins were first minted for the Spanish Crown in the 1620s. The whole process is laid bare, from hand-struck colonial coins to the high-tech, multi-colored bills we use today. It makes you look at every peso in your pocket with a whole new level of respect.

Collection Highlights

They have these incredible, heavy iron presses from the colonial era and you can see actual minting dies with intricate engravings. One of the coolest things is getting up close to a massive, modern coin press—it’s both terrifying and fascinating to see the raw metal blanks get transformed into finished coins right before your eyes.

Visitor Information

It's tucked away on Calle 11 in La Candelaria, so it's easy to pop into while exploring Bogotá's historic center. Just double-check their opening hours online before you go, as they can be a bit specific.

Architecture & Building

The building itself feels like a piece of history, a classic Spanish colonial structure with thick walls, a heavy wooden door, and a central courtyard that gives you a real sense of stepping back in time.
