Centre Pompidou Málaga
About This Museum
Tucked just off the bustling Muelle Uno port, the Centre Pompidou Málaga is a splash of avant-garde energy against the city's ancient backdrop. This outpost of the legendary Parisian institution feels less like a traditional museum and more like a vibrant cultural hub. Inside, you'll find a surprisingly intimate yet powerful collection that zigzags through the 20th and 21st centuries. It’s a place where you can stumble upon a Frida Kahlo self-portrait one moment and a sprawling video installation the next.
Collection Highlights
The permanent exhibition, 'The Collection,' is a greatest-hits tour of modern art, featuring heavyweights like Francis Bacon and René Magritte. Don't miss the stunning site-specific installations in the central courtyard or the constantly rotating temporary exhibits that focus on everything from photography to design.
Visitor Information
It's open every day except Tuesdays, and general admission is quite reasonable at around €9. For a deeper dive, check their website for their excellent program of workshops and film screenings—many are free with your ticket.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is an unmissable landmark: a brilliant multi-colored glass cube that seems to hover above the plaza, its exposed pipes and structure painted in bright blues, reds, and yellows.
