Cáceres Museum
About This Museum
Tucked away in the heart of Cáceres's old town, this museum holds a secret beneath its feet: a breathtaking 12th-century Almohad aljibe, or cistern, with a forest of horseshoe arches reflecting in its still waters. The experience begins the moment you step inside the Casa de las Veletas, a grand 16th-17th century palace built over an old Moorish alcazaba. Its rooms unfold with a mix of rustic stonework and aristocratic elegance, setting a dramatic stage for the treasures within. You'll journey from local prehistory, past Roman milestones found in nearby fields, right up to traditional Extremaduran crafts.

Don't miss the intricate Visigothic votive crowns from the Guarrazar treasure or the surprisingly well-preserved Celtic 'Verraco' stone boar. The ethnographic section feels wonderfully alive, filled with tools, costumes, and ceramics that tell the story of daily life in this region.
