Bunkers Hill Cultural Xperience and River Tour
About This Museum
Tucked away in the lush Trelawny hills, the Bunkers Hill Cultural Xperience began as a community effort to preserve the rich, often overlooked history of Jamaica's inland villages. You'll find it's far more than a static museum; it's a living narrative where the scent of woodsmoke and earth mixes with the vibrant sounds of local life. The journey starts with a guided walk through the village itself, where residents might show you traditional yam cultivation or the art of jerk seasoning over pimento wood. It all culminates in a tranquil river tour on a handmade bamboo raft, offering a completely different, serene perspective of the Jamaican countryside.
Collection Highlights
The key exhibits aren't behind glassβthey're the village itself. You can explore a re-creation of a historic 'busha' (overseer) house, handle traditional farming tools still in use today, and watch demonstrations of crafts like basket weaving. Don't miss the chance to taste fresh sugarcane juice pressed right before your eyes.
