About This Museum

You know how most art museums feel a bit stuffy? The AGO is the complete opposite, thanks to an incredible swooping wooden staircase and a glass-and-titanium facade that just pulls you in. It's massive, but it feels surprisingly warm and full of light. I spent most of my time getting lost in the Canadian wing, which is just packed with everything from Group of Seven landscapes to these hauntingly beautiful Inuit sculptures. And then you turn a corner and boom—you're face-to-face with a Rubens or a Rembrandt.

Collection Highlights

The heart of the place is its Canadian collection; you can practically walk through a forest just by looking at the Lawren Harris paintings. They also have this mind-bending Henry Moore sculpture gallery and an entire room dedicated to the intricate, powerful work of contemporary Indigenous artists.

Visitor Information

It's right on Dundas Street West, super easy to get to by streetcar. Grab a coffee in their cafe under the gorgeous Galleria Italia—it’s the perfect spot to take a break and people-watch.

Architecture & Building

The building itself is a work of art, famously redesigned by Toronto's own Frank Gehry. He kept the historic brick facade but added his signature curving glass and titanium elements, so it's this amazing blend of old and new.
