About This Museum
I had no idea this place started as a simple fishing and pearling port back in the 19th century—it really feels like stepping into old Qatar. The market isn't one big building but a whole maze of restored coral-stone and limestone shops, all with those gorgeous traditional wind towers you see in historic photos. We spent ages just wandering the shaded alleyways, popping into little stalls overflowing with everything from beautiful oud perfumes and intricate textiles to local honey and spices. You can hear the gentle sound of the sea from the public beach right next door, and the air is filled with this amazing mix of coffee smells and incense.
Collection Highlights
It's less about formal exhibits and more about the living vendors; highlights are the fragrant spice mounds, shelves of dark oud wood, glittering gold jewelry shops, and a stall dedicated entirely to sadu weaving, that traditional Bedouin craft.
