Agaseke center/ KIGALI CULTURAL VILLAGE
About This Museum
This isn't your typical quiet museum; it's a vibrant, living village right in the heart of Kigali where you can actually see artisans at work. The star of the show is the beautiful Agaseke, those iconic Rwandan peace baskets woven with such incredible skill. You'll find craftspeople shaping pottery and working with vibrant textiles, all while sharing stories. It feels less like observing history and more like being welcomed into a community.
Collection Highlights
The main event is watching the intricate weaving of Agaseke baskets, but you'll also see traditional Imigongo cow-dung art with its geometric patterns and beautifully crafted jewelry.
Visitor Information
Definitely set aside an hour or two to really soak it in, and don't be shy about chatting with the weaversβthey're so proud to explain their craft. It's a wonderfully hands-on experience.
Architecture & Building
The center is designed to feel like a traditional Rwandan village, with rounded, earth-toned buildings and open-air pavilions that let the breeze and sunlight in.
