Agadir Oufella
About This Museum
Perched on a hilltop high above the city, the Agadir Oufella isn't just a museum; it's the city's silent sentinel. The fortress walls, stark and pale against the blue sky, tell a story of resilience after a devastating earthquake in 1960. Today, it’s less about curated artifacts and more about an immersive experience where the landscape itself is the main exhibit. Walking through the ruins, you're tracing the ghost of old Agadir.
Collection Highlights
The main draws are the panoramic views of the modern city and Atlantic coastline, the historic Berber granaries tucked within the fortifications, and the poignant remnants of the original kasbah. Don't miss the preserved entrance gate and the large, trilingual memorial plaque that simply reads: 'God, Country, King'.
Visitor Information
You'll need to take a petit taxi or drive up the winding road to the summit; wear comfortable shoes as it's a sprawling site to explore on foot. The best time to visit is late afternoon when the heat subsides and you can catch a spectacular sunset over the ocean.
Architecture & Building
A reconstructed historic kasbah and fortress featuring classic Moroccan rammed earth and stone walls, built upon ancient Berber foundations that blend seamlessly into the mountaintop.
