You wouldn't believe it, but this whole museum was built to showcase the treasures found from just one monastery complex—and what a collection it is! Walking through the cool, modern halls feels like stepping back into the heart of ancient Anuradhapura. The way everything is laid out gives you a real sense of how massive and sophisticated Abhayagiri was. It’s honestly one of the most impressive archaeological sites I’ve ever seen.
Collection Highlights
The delicate moonstones with their intricate carvings of animals are breathtaking, and you can get up close to see the skill. Then there's the massive, elegantly simple Buddha statues and all these tiny, everyday objects like intricate jewelry and even ancient coins that really bring the past to life.
