About This Museum
You'd never guess it, but this cathedral of modern art was once a hulking grain silo, the tallest in South Africa. Now, its 42 concrete tubes have been carved out to create a breathtaking atrium that feels both ancient and utterly futuristic. Inside, you'll find the pulse of 21st-century Africa through wildly innovative works—think a room filled with hanging portraits made from plastic bags or a sculpture woven from discarded telephone wire. It’s not a quiet, hushed gallery; it’s a vibrant, sometimes challenging, conversation with a continent on the move.
Collection Highlights
Look for Mary Sibande's towering purple sculpture 'A Reversed Retrogress' and the immersive textile installations of Igshaan Adams.
