About This Museum

I stumbled upon this absolute gem of a place, the SPS Museum, which feels like stepping into a time capsule. It was founded way back in 1898, so you can just imagine the history packed inside its walls. I spent ages just wandering through rooms filled with everything from ancient pottery and intricate textiles to some seriously formidable medieval weaponry that tells stories of Kashmir's past. The atmosphere is quiet and a little dusty in the best way, making it a perfect, peaceful escape from the city bustle.

Collection Highlights

You have to see the Pahari miniature paintings with their incredible detail, and the collection of ornate silver and copperwork is stunning. I was also completely captivated by the traditional Kashmiri textiles – the craftsmanship is unbelievable.

Visitor Information

It's tucked away in Lal Mandi, Srinagar, and is a really straightforward stop. Just double-check opening times before you go, as places like this can sometimes have unexpected closures.

Architecture & Building

The building itself is this wonderful old colonial-era structure, all red brick and grand proportions that give it a real sense of importance.
