Ski museum - Spaho's house
About This Museum
It might be the only museum in the Balkans where you can find century-old wooden skis displayed inside a traditional Ottoman-era house. This is not a sterile, modern gallery but a living piece of history, where the scent of aged wood seems to whisper tales of past winters. The Spaho family home itself, with its distinctive oriental architecture, provides an unexpectedly warm and intimate setting for the rugged sporting equipment. You get this wonderful, almost surreal contrast between the delicate domesticity of the house and the hardy, functional gear designed for the wild mountains just outside its doors.
Collection Highlights
Look for the primitive, hand-carved wooden skis bound with leather straps—imagine tackling a Sjenica winter on those. Alongside them are vintage boots, fragile-looking woolen outfits, and photographs of early 20th-century ski pioneers posing proudly with their simple gear on these very slopes.
Visitor Information
You'll find it right on the main road through Sjenica; it's that beautiful old house you can't miss. Just ring the bell or knock, and someone will gladly let you in to explore this unique slice of local heritage.
Architecture & Building
The building is a classic example of Balkan-Ottoman residential architecture, featuring a stone ground floor and a protruding, timber-framed upper story with large windows, all topped with a steeply pitched roof.
