Tucked away in Kampong Telian, the Sapan Puloh Mini Melanau Museum feels more like a community treasure chest than a formal institution. It grew from a simple desire to keep the rich Melanau heritage of Mukah alive for the younger generation. Stepping inside, you're immediately surrounded by the tools, textiles, and stories of daily life from a time not so long ago. The air carries the faint, sweet scent of sago and old wood, making history feel wonderfully present.
Collection Highlights
You can't miss the impressive display of traditional fishing traps, or 'bubus,' woven with incredible skill from local materials. Look for the intricate 'tajau' burial jars, which speak to ancient customs, and the beautiful 'ba'u' beadwork that adorns traditional costumes.
Visitor Information
It's a small place run with great heart, so it's always a good idea to ask around the village if you find the door closed. Someone will likely know who has the key and be happy to let you in for a look.

Housed in a classic Melanau tall-house, built on sturdy stilts with walls and floors of belian ironwood that have weathered decades of sun and rain.
