Sand Dunes View Deck
About This Museum
People don't just come here for the view, though that's what first catches their eye. They come to stand where the land is still being shaped, to feel the wind whip sand from the crests of the Paoay Lake Sand Dunes and hear stories of how this stark landscape was once a hidden thoroughfare for tobacco smugglers. You can almost picture the Ilocano rebels and traders moving like ghosts through these golden hills. It’s a place that feels wild and ancient, a powerful reminder of nature's force right on the edge of the city.
Collection Highlights
The main exhibit is the landscape itself—the ever-shifting dunes, the panoramic view of Paoay Lake, and on a clear day, a distant glimpse of the South China Sea. Local guides often share tales of its history, not found on any plaque.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find along the main road heading towards Paoay from Laoag. Best to go in the late afternoon when the sun isn't as harsh and the light turns the sand a brilliant gold; bring something to cover your face if it's windy.
Architecture & Building
It’s a simple, open-air view deck made of sturdy local wood and concrete, built more for function than flair so nothing distracts from the raw beauty it overlooks.
