About This Museum

You wouldn't believe it, but this entire museum is actually one massive, traditional longhouse raised high on wooden stilts. Stepping inside feels like entering a different world, a single, sprawling community space that stretches on and on under a soaring roof. It’s not just a building; it's the story of the Dayak people, filled with the very objects they used for daily life and sacred ceremonies. The air is thick with the scent of old wood and history, making you feel like you're a guest in a living village rather than just a visitor to a museum.

Collection Highlights

Look for the intricate baby carriers woven from rattan and the terrifyingly beautiful mandau swords with their carved handles. Don't miss the displays of elaborate beadwork and the huge, ornately carved wooden statues that once guarded entire villages.

Visitor Information

It's located right there in Taniran village in Central Kalimantanβ€”look for the giant longhouse you can't possibly miss. Since it's a bit off the usual tourist trail, it's probably best to check locally for current opening hours before you go.

Architecture & Building

A classic Betang longhouse, an incredibly long wooden structure built towering high off the ground on sturdy ironwood pillars, topped with an immense and steep roof made from shingles.
