Rotvær Fyrstasjon
About This Museum
Believe it or not, this entire museum was once a working lighthouse station, guiding ships through the treacherous Tjeldsundet strait since 1912. Today, its remote island location on Fugløya feels less like a museum and more like stepping directly into a keeper's world. You can almost hear the echoes of the foghorn and smell the sea salt in the air. It’s a place where history isn't just displayed; it's palpably felt.
Collection Highlights
The heart of the collection is the original, beautifully preserved Fresnel lens, a complex jewel of prisms and light. Alongside it, you'll find the keeper's personal logbooks filled with meticulous script and weathered maritime charts that plotted countless safe passages.
Visitor Information
Getting there is an adventure—you'll need to take a boat from Lødingen. Check their social media for seasonal opening times before you make the trip; its remote charm means it isn't always open.
