Riga Art Nouveau Center, museum
About This Museum
If you want to understand Riga's golden age, you have to step inside Alberta iela 12. This isn't just any museum; it's the meticulously restored apartment of a prosperous Latvian from the early 1900s, frozen in time. Everywhere you look, from the sinuous floral patterns on the staircase to the elegant furniture, you feel the city's bold, modern spirit at the turn of the century. It’s a place that tells a very intimate story of art and life.
Collection Highlights
You'll find Konstantīns Pēkšēns' own custom-designed furniture throughout, and don't miss the stunning tiled stove in the corner of the main living area—it's a true centerpiece. Upstairs, a small exhibit showcases original architectural drawings and delicate ceramics that highlight the sheer artistry of the era.
Visitor Information
Just ring the bell on Alberta iela, that famous street everyone comes to photograph. They're open every day except Mondays, and it's best to check their website for current hours as they can change with the seasons.
Architecture & Building
The building is a classic example of Riga's Romantic Art Nouveau, designed by its very own architect-owner. From the outside, you're greeted by a dramatic facade of sculpted masks and flowing organic forms; inside, the grand staircase with its intricate wrought-iron balustrade is simply breathtaking.
