Pima Air & Space Museum
About This Museum
Believe it or not, I just walked through a parking lot where the spots are reserved for decommissioned Air Force One jets. The sheer scale of this place is the first thing that hits you—it's less a museum and more a silent, sprawling city of aviation. You'll find yourself craning your neck at the impossibly sleek black form of an SR-71 Blackbird one minute, and then feeling dwarfed by the hulking gray mass of a B-52 Stratofortress the next. Wandering between the hangars and the sun-bleached desert exhibits, with the Tucson mountains as a backdrop, is an experience that truly soars.
Collection Highlights
Getting to walk right up to the legendary SR-71 Blackbird, touch the weathered tires of a massive B-52 bomber, and stand in the shadow of a presidential VC-137B Air Force One plane were my personal highlights.
Visitor Information
Wear comfortable shoes and bring water—you're exploring 80 acres of history under that famous Arizona sun. It's located right next to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, so you might get a real-life airshow if you're lucky.
Architecture & Building
Forget a single building; it's a vast campus of massive, no-frills hangars with corrugated metal siding that house the delicate aircraft, while many more are parked proudly on the open tarmac, baking in the desert heat.
