Pierides Museum - Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation
About This Museum
I stumbled upon this absolute gem of a museum tucked away on a quiet street in Larnaca. It's the passion project of the Pierides family, who've been collecting artifacts from all over Cyprus since way back in 1839. You walk through rooms filled with ancient pottery that still has visible painted figures and delicate glassware that has somehow survived centuries completely intact. The whole place feels more like a curated treasure hunt than a formal institution, which makes it incredibly engaging.
Collection Highlights
Look for the stunning Roman glass vessels—it's amazing how something so delicate survives. The collection of ancient maps really sticks with you, showing how the world saw Cyprus through the ages.
Visitor Information
It's compact and easy to cover in an hour or so, perfect for a cultural break from the beach. It's on Zinonos Kitieos street, just a short walk from the main seafront promenade.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a beautiful, traditional colonial-style Cypriot building with high ceilings and shutters, it feels like you're stepping into a historic family home.
