Tucked away in the ancient heart of Baku's Old City, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs feels like a serene kingdom unto itself. Wandering through its honey-colored limestone courtyards, you can almost hear the whispers of the royalty who ruled here six centuries ago. The complex isn't just one building but a sprawling maze of a royal court, complete with a graceful mosque, intimate burial vaults, and mysterious underground baths. It’s a place where history isn't locked away in glass cases but is etched into every sun-warmed stone.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the intricate stone carvings in the Divanhane mausoleum or the fascinating display of ancient coins and weaponry found on-site. The real highlight for me was descending into the cool, quiet Shirvanshahs' tomb, a powerfully atmospheric space that feels frozen in time.
Visitor Information
It's incredibly easy to find within Icherisheher (the Old City), and you'll want to give yourself at least an hour to properly explore. Just a heads-up, some areas might be under restoration, but it's absolutely still worth the visit.
