P. Ramlee House
About This Museum
You won't find a grand, imposing building here; instead, it's the humble wooden house where the legend himself, P. Ramlee, grew up. Stepping onto the grounds feels less like entering a museum and more like visiting the cherished family home of Malaysia's most beloved entertainer. The air seems to still carry echoes of the laughter and music that would one day captivate a nation. It’s a deeply personal place that tells the story of a boy from Penang who became a superstar.
Collection Highlights
Inside, you'll find his personal spectacles resting on a table, his iconic songkok (hat), and original handwritten musical scores. My favourite part is seeing his first guitar and some of the actual costumes from his classic films. The walls are lined with wonderful black-and-white photographs that trace his journey from this very neighbourhood to the bright lights of Jalan Ampas.
Visitor Information
It’s tucked away on Jalan P. Ramlee in George Town—look for the charming green-and-white structure. Pop in, take your time wandering through the rooms, and don't be surprised if you find yourself humming 'Getaran Jiwa' on your way out.
Architecture & Building
It's a traditional single-storey wooden kampung house, raised on stilts with louvred windows and a simple, pitched roof—a typical style for its time in Penang.
