So I checked out the Old Slater Mill today, and it's honestly mind-blowing to stand in a building that basically kickstarted America's Industrial Revolution back in 1793. You can almost hear the ghosts of machinery in these ancient rooms, where they've got original water wheels and some seriously heavy-looking looms just sitting there. The whole place has this gritty, authentic feel, not like a sterile museum at all. It’s a powerful reminder of how a single mill in little Pawtucket completely changed the game for the entire country.
Collection Highlights
The heart of it is definitely the working antique machinery—seeing a massive spinning frame powered by the river is incredible. They also have exhibits on the craftspeople and families, including the 'Made in Pawtucket' display showing all sorts of unexpected things manufactured here.
