About This Museum

Tucked away in the heart of Setomaa, down a quiet lane in Obinitsa, you'll find a place that holds the soul of the Seto people. It's not a grand, imposing building, but stepping inside feels like visiting the home of a wise elder. The air is thick with the scent of wood and wool, and every hand-carved spoon and brightly woven belt has a story to tell. You can almost hear the echo of ancient leelo songs in these rooms.

Collection Highlights

Look for the stunning traditional silver breastplates, or *sõlg*, which were a family's walking fortune. Don't miss the corner dedicated to Hilana Taarka, the revered Seto singing mother; her spirit is very much present here.

Visitor Information

It's best to call ahead or check their social media for opening times, as they can be seasonal. A friendly local caretaker is usually around to share stories you won't find on any plaque.

Architecture & Building

Housed in a charming, traditional wooden building with a steeply pitched roof, it looks much like the other historic homes in the village.
