About This Museum

Tucked away in Stokmarknes, this gem of a museum is a love letter to the ships that have knitted Norway's coastline together for over a century. The star of the show is the MS Finnmarken, a magnificent 1956 coastal steamer you can actually board and explore from stem to stern. Wandering her polished decks and cozy cabins, you can almost hear the chatter of past passengers and feel the salt spray. It’s a wonderfully immersive experience that goes far beyond static displays.

Collection Highlights

The entire MS Finnmarken is the main exhibit, but don't miss the fascinating scale models tracing the evolution of the Coastal Express fleet and the authentic retro posters advertising the voyages.

Visitor Information

After poking around the ship's bridge, treat yourself to a coffee and a waffle in their cafe, which has lovely views of the working Hurtigruten ships still coming and going right outside.

Architecture & Building

The museum building itself is modern and functional, but its most striking feature is that it's built right around the historic hull of the MS Finnmarken, making the ship itself part of the architecture.
