Norwegian Aviation Museum
About This Museum
Believe it or not, you can walk right through the fuselage of a retired Royal Norwegian Air Force C-130 Hercules at this museum. It's an experience that sets the tone for a place that feels more like an aircraft hangar than a stuffy gallery. The main building is a vast, modern space where historic planes seem to float in the air, suspended from the high ceilings. You'll find everything from tiny post-war trainers to sleek Cold War-era jet fighters, all with stories to tell.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the rare Lockheed U-2 spy plane, its impossibly long wingspan dominating one hall, or the beautifully restored de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter floatplane. For something completely different, climb into the cockpit of a F-5 fighter jet in the interactive zone and watch technicians bring other classics back to life in the on-site restoration workshop.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find just across from Bodø Airport—you can practically watch modern airliners land while exploring aviation history. Give yourself a good three hours; there's a lot to see and even more to touch.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is a striking piece of modern design, with a dramatic propeller-shaped layout and a massive glass facade that floods the interior with northern light.
