Nike Art Gallery
About This Museum
Believe it or not, one of the largest personal collections of Nigerian art in the world isn't in a sterile, state-funded building—it's tucked away in a vibrant, four-story building in Lagos, all thanks to one woman's passion. You walk up and it feels more like a massive, colorful villa than a typical gallery, buzzing with energy from the moment you step inside. Every inch of wall space is covered in a breathtaking tapestry of colors and textures, from intricate Yoruba beadwork and Adire indigo-dyed textiles to strikingly bold contemporary paintings. It’s an immersive experience where you can feel the pulse of Nigerian creativity across generations.
Collection Highlights
You'll find entire walls dedicated to monumental Adire cloth pieces dyed by Nike Okundaye herself, alongside rooms filled with powerful Nok terracotta sculptures and vibrant paintings from artists you won't see anywhere else.
Visitor Information
It's completely free to wander through all four floors, which is almost unheard of for a collection this significant; just head to Lekki and look for the unmistakable building on Nike Art Gallery Road.
Architecture & Building
The gallery is housed in a tall, modern concrete building that feels surprisingly personal and residential, with ornate metalwork on the balconies and an open, airy layout that lets you explore at your own pace.
