National Taiwan Museum
About This Museum
If you've ever strolled through 228 Peace Park, you've seen it—that grand, green-domed building that feels like the steadfast guardian of Taipei's oldest stories. This is the National Taiwan Museum, a place that doesn't just display history but has lived it since the Japanese colonial era. Step inside and you're greeted by the soaring ceiling and the magnificent, light-filled atrium, a prelude to the wonders within. It’s a rare gem that weaves together the island's human drama and its stunning natural world under one magnificent roof.
Collection Highlights
You can't miss the majestic Formosan Clouded Leopard, suspended as if forever prowling, or stand in awe before the intricate handicrafts of Taiwan's Indigenous peoples. One of my favorite spots is where you can trace the island's dramatic geological shifts and marvel at the glittering native minerals.
Visitor Information
It’s the perfect museum for a spare afternoon; you can see the highlights in a couple of hours without feeling rushed. After you’ve had your fill of history, grab a coffee on the steps and just watch the city life unfold in the park across the street.
Architecture & Building
Imagine a stately Renaissance-style palace, crowned with an elegant copper dome that has weathered to a beautiful patina green, standing as a proud monument amidst modern Taipei.
