Museum of the Rockies
About This Museum
Nestled in the stunning Gallatin Valley, just a stone's throw from downtown Bozeman, the Museum of the Rockies is an absolute treasure. You walk in and are immediately greeted by the towering skeleton of a T-Rex, which really sets the stage for what's to come. Beyond the famous dinosaurs, I loved wandering through the living history farm and getting a genuine feel for Montana's pioneer past. The planetarium show was the perfect way to cap off an afternoon that felt both educational and completely awe-inspiring.
Collection Highlights
The star of the show is undoubtedly 'Big Mike,' a colossal Tyrannosaurus rex cast, alongside an incredible wall of Triceratops skulls that shows their evolution. Don't miss the Tinsley House, a preserved historic homestead where costumed interpreters bring the late 1800s to life.
Visitor Information
It's right on the edge of the Montana State University campus, so parking is straightforward. Definitely book your planetarium tickets online ahead of time as those shows fill up fast!
Architecture & Building
The building itself is a modern, low-slung structure of stone and glass that somehow feels perfectly at home with the rugged Rocky Mountain backdrop.
