Museum of Fine Arts, Dole
About This Museum
Tucked away in the charming old town of Dole, this museum feels like a wonderful secret. It's housed in a former hospice, so you get this fascinating mix of grand, historic architecture and incredible art. I was completely drawn into the collection of paintings from the 16th to 19th centuries, which felt surprisingly intimate and personal. The atmosphere is quiet and contemplative, perfect for losing yourself for an hour or two without the crowds of bigger city museums.
Collection Highlights
You can't miss the powerful works by Jean-Désiré Ringel d'Illzach, a local sculptor, and the beautiful Flemish and Dutch Old Masters. I kept circling back to a few stunning landscapes by Courbet that just glow with light.
