About This Museum

You don't come here for the Parthenon or pristine beaches; you come to Larisa for a story you simply won't find anywhere else. This is the Museum of Military Veterinary Service, a deeply niche and utterly fascinating tribute to the unsung heroes of warfare: the horses, mules, and dogs, and the people who cared for them. I was completely captivated by the displays of historic veterinary kits and old photographs showing these animals in action. It’s a small but powerful space that reframes military history through a profoundly different lens.

Collection Highlights

The collection brings history to life with things like an original, fully-equipped mobile field hospital on wheels and intricate surgical instruments used in the field. Don't miss the poignant exhibits on carrier pigeons and their vital role in communications, or the harnesses and medical packs designed specifically for military working dogs.

Visitor Information

It's tucked away on a street inside a military base (Ir. Politechniou 18), so you'll likely need to call ahead to arrange a visit—but trust me, it's absolutely worth that little bit of extra effort.

Architecture & Building

Housed in a functional, no-frills military building that feels perfectly authentic, its straightforward style lets the incredible stories inside take center stage.
