Perched dramatically on a hill overlooking Luanda Bay, its whitewashed walls and terracotta roofs have witnessed the entire sweep of the nation's past. Inside, you'll find far more than just uniforms and medals; this is a sprawling chronicle of conflict and peace, from pre-colonial times through the struggle for independence. The sheer scale of the hardware on display, from fighter jets to armored vehicles parked in the courtyards, is genuinely breathtaking.

Visitor Information
Wear comfortable shoes—the fort is huge and you'll be doing a lot of walking on old stone floors and ramparts. The hilltop location also means you're rewarded with some of the best panoramic views in the city.
