About This Museum
Perched dramatically on the edge of a cliff, this place feels more like a fortress dedicated to the sea than a simple museum. It was actually founded by Prince Albert I of Monaco, who was a genuine navigator and oceanographer, which gives the whole place this incredible personal passion. You'll find everything from the delicate skeletons of glass sea creatures to massive whale skeletons that make you feel tiny. And then there's the lower level, which is a living part of the museum—a stunning aquarium with thousands of colorful fish, sharks, and coral reefs.
Collection Highlights
The historic collections from Prince Albert I's voyages are amazing, including intricate glass models of marine invertebrates. The main hall is dominated by an enormous whale skeleton suspended from the ceiling. The aquarium itself is a highlight, with its Blacktip Reef sharks and vibrant tropical lagoon.
Visitor Information
Wear comfortable shoes because there are many floors to explore! The terrace on the roof offers absolutely breathtaking views of the Mediterranean—it's the perfect spot for a photo. It's located on Avenue Saint-Martin in Monaco and is very easy to find.
