About This Museum

People find their way out to Ploubazlanec for all sorts of reasons—some tracing the footsteps of Paimpol's legendary Iceland fishermen, others simply drawn by the wild beauty of the Goëlo coast. What they discover here, in this unassuming stone house, is something far more intimate than a standard museum. It’s the living memory of a community whose lives were utterly defined by the sea, told through the very objects and photographs they left behind. You don't just learn history here; you feel the salt spray and sense the long absences.

Collection Highlights

You'll stand before a full-scale model of a 'doris,' the tiny fishing boat men would row out to from their mothership in often treacherous conditions. The walls are lined with portraits of those who never returned, their faces telling a story words cannot. Don't miss the re-created sailor's cottage, complete with a box bed and simple hearth, which speaks volumes about the humble lives they returned to.

Visitor Information

It's tucked away at 6 Rue Abbé le Jeune—look for the traditional Breton facade. Best to check opening times locally as they can be seasonal, but it's well worth the small detour off the main coastal path.

Architecture & Building

Housed in a classic Breton longère, one of those sturdy, granite-built farmhouses with a slate roof that seems to grow right out of the landscape.
