Musée Historique de Haguenau
About This Museum
Tucked away on Rue du Maréchal Foch, right in the historic heart of our town, the Musée Historique de Haguenau has been the keeper of our local stories for generations. Step inside and you'll journey from ancient Roman times straight through to the 19th century, all through objects that feel like they've been pulled from your own grandmother's attic. It’s a wonderfully unpretentious place where you can get up close to the very things that shaped daily life here in northern Alsace. You leave feeling less like a tourist and more like you've just had a long chat with a knowledgeable old friend.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the stunning medieval pottery, known as 'Haguenau Faïence,' with its distinctive green glaze, or the weighty Roman gold coin hoard that makes you wonder about the person who buried it. The collection of traditional Alsatian furniture and wrought-iron shop signs really brings the town's past artisans to life.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find in the town center, and while it's wise to check their current hours online, a leisurely afternoon is perfect for soaking it all in. The staff are lovely and often have a personal anecdote or two to share about the exhibits.
Architecture & Building
Housed in an elegant former chancellery building, its sandstone façade and pitched roof are a beautiful example of classic Alsatian civic architecture from the Renaissance period.
