Musée du Compagnonnage
About This Museum
You have to see this place—it's a museum dedicated to the secret societies of French craftsmen, the Compagnons. Tucked away in a stunning old abbey in Tours, it's filled with the most mind-blowing masterpieces these artisans had to create to prove their skill. I was staring at a tiny, perfect wooden spiral staircase that had no nails, just insane joinery, and an ornate iron gate that looked more like lace. The whole vibe is one of quiet reverence for these incredible skills; it feels less like a museum and more like a treasure chest.
Collection Highlights
The 'masterpieces' from different trades are unforgettable—a complex wooden staircase built without nails, elaborate wrought-iron gates, and a detailed miniature stone cathedral.
